Our story crosses over 3 themes.

1. About the world of WORK, our MAHI | It doesn’t work how can we do it better!

2. About Networking | About building a collaboration network. A way to make the above happen collectively.

3. And about Creativity/Music | About bringing a musical analogy/flavour to the mix, a foundation for better making.

With a passion for improvement, for people, for networking and connecting those people, and a music/arts/creative background the Network Studio was born!

THE NETWORK Origin Story

They say it takes years to become an overnight success!

Doing the ‘thing’, working out how to do the ‘thing, and then making it a ‘thing’! Here’s a video I recorded a few years ago about how it all started! Though like most good things, it has continued to grow and develop beyond even what I could have thought of, and it still does!

We asked ourselves 3 things….

Could you build a collaborative network of like-minded global improvement people?
What would that look like, how would it work?
Impact, what impact could it have?

How can we do work better!

BUT even before that…. It was the mid 1990’s and work was not working for so many people. Books like “When work doesn’t work anymore”, and xx. What was going wrong? How could we do better….

What followed was so many experiences, learning. Reading, exploring.

I read a book called | 9 Lives. By an American author. She did 9 jobs in one year then wrote about it, and all the twists and turns. I loved it, and thought I’d love to do that!

Ever since I’ve been assembling a real catalogue of examples, stories of who’s doing better and how. What are the examples that aren’t good, and how they could be improved.

And who’s doing the improving!

Connecting Improvement Artists

Networking! The art of connecting dots.

This is our core focus. Connecting dots. For a long while I’ve seen possibilities and potential in all the people I’ve met. I’m always thinking X should meet Y. Looking for the synergies, the magic. In 2013 I was networking and connecting people across NZ, in the lean manufacturing world…. it just went from there to be improvement of any kind and global!

The Music Model | THE BAND

My original background, experience and study was in the realm of Classical Music. While it’s not a career I followed, the thinking, ethos, and potential never left me.

A music model has become the framework for the studio.

Creative collaboration — like a jazz band, ensemble, flexible but aligned.
Energy and movement — rhythm, harmony, resonance and momentum.

Bringing the language, vibe, harmony, resonance, framework of music and creativity to the way we do the change making, the collaboration, the networking and connections. In a Network, an Ecosystem, and the Improvement Industry!

Fan: Enthusiast, aficionado, supporter, follower, admirer.
Audience: Spectators, onlookers, viewers, listeners, patrons.
Externals: Coaches, consultants, talent scouts, fixers, tour managers.

We work in the space of | Co-creators, Talent Scouts,/Fixers/Gig Managers and Producers.

We are a Creative Body | What we do, and how we do it, is both creative and based on the creative industries as a framework.

We are an Organisation | The focus is on the Greater Good, determined to make things better for us all!

And ….we are a Business | This is our profession. Our career. How we make our living!! We don’t consult, no-one is our clients, though we don’t do this for free!
